{"id":22,"date":"2026-05-12T14:52:47","date_gmt":"2026-05-12T12:52:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/institutumcarmelitanum.com\/?page_id=22"},"modified":"2026-05-27T11:43:57","modified_gmt":"2026-05-27T09:43:57","slug":"history-of-the-institutum","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/institutumcarmelitanum.com\/en\/chi-siamo\/storia-dellinstitutum\/","title":{"rendered":"History of the Institutum Carmelitanum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">The Institutum Carmelitanum was founded on<strong> 30 October 1951<\/strong>, with the approval of the Prior General Kilian Lynch and his Council, \u201c<em>for the promotion of studies in the Carmelite field concerning history, Mariology, and spiritual life<\/em>\u201c.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">Initially it was organised into three sections (Historical, Mariological and Spiritual Life), to which a fourth section was added in 1952: <strong>Bibliography<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">On 16 December 1952, the General Council approved the publication of the scientific journal <em><strong>Carmelus<\/strong><\/em>, whose first volume was published in 1954. In that same year the Institutum Carmelitanum was recognized by civil law as a publishing house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">Finally, in 1991, the process began that led to the separation of research activities from publishing and the birth of <strong>Carmelite Editions<\/strong> as a publishing house separate from the Institutum Carmelitanum itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">The Institutum Carmelitanum, as an academic institution for studies and research, includes the <strong>historical section of the General Archive of the Order<\/strong> and the <strong>Carmelite General Library<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify wp-block-paragraph\">Throughout its history, the Institutum Carmelitanum has undergone several reforms, including the one in 2021, which defined its current organization.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>L&#8217;Institutum Carmelitanum \u00e8 stato fondato il 30 ottobre 1951, con approvazione del priore generale Kilian Lynch e del suo Consiglio, &#8220;ad promovenda studia in re carmelitana circa historiam, mariologiam et vitam spiritualem&#8220;.
